To help you with some queries you may have, I've put together a list of my most commonly asked questions with my answers below. If you can't see yours on here, please contact me.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long does a pet drawing take?

It depends on what I am working in. Graphite or Charcoal portraits usual take me approximately 10 hours, depending on size and the quality of the reference photo. Colour pencils are a much slower medium to work in and will usually take 20+ hours to complete your family or pet portrait.

Q: Do you include a background for dog portraits?

All of my listed prices are with no background, however I can create a custom portrait commission for your dog drawing. If you’d like a background please contact me and I'll provide a custom quote.

Q: Do you frame the portraits? What’s included?

My listed prices do not include framing, although I am happy to quote and organise framing of your hand drawn portrait for you. I work with a local, high quality, framing business for all my art framing.

Q: How will my portrait be packaged?

Your beautiful portrait is packaged and shipped in flat packaging to protect them. All A3 or smaller portraits are flat packed for shipping.

Q: How much does the shipping cost for my dog portrait?

I offer flat rate shipping with Australia Post of $24.95 for all of my portrait deliveries.
For international orders to major countries such as Canada, United States and United Kingdom a flat shipping rate of $49.95 applies. For shipping to other countries please contact me for a quote.

Q: How do I protect my pet drawing?

Please keep your pet drawing or family portrait in its original packaging and avoid handling it until framed to avoid damage. Avoid direct sunlight on your artwork as this will cause premature fading. You may want to consider UV protective glass to protect your drawing.

Q: How do I get the best photo for the pet drawing?

The best reference photos are taken in natural light. This means outside is great option, or facing the windows in your house. Try to capture as much detail as possible, so get close (please avoid using digital zoom or cropping where possible, I can do that later). Make sure you get down to their level as it makes a huge difference, believe me! Make it fun, it doesn’t have to be serious. Play fetch or chase with your dog, the fun will shine through in the photos.

Q: Can you draw portraits from old photos?

Yes! I have completed some wonderful portraits for customers looking to commemorate a long lost pet. It's a lovely gift idea.

Q: What if my pet has passed away?

A lot of my previous commissions are of pets who have sadly passed. If this is the case with your pet, then send me whatever photos you have and I will create a memorable art work for you to cherish.

Q: What's your turnaround time?

It depends on my bookings, but my standard turnaround time of your pet portrait is usually between 4-6 weeks.

Q: Do you take orders from outside of Australia?

If you live outside Australia, additional postage costs will be added to the cost of the portrait - I'll discuss this with you when we talk about your order. Also you would be responsible for any sales tax on your end if this applies to your country.

How To Order

  • 1: Choose Your Portrait

Firstly, have a look over my current price list and decide which size you'd like to order. If you can't decide which you'd like then feel free to let me know and I can help you choose. These are just my standard sizes so if you're wanting a different size, a different ratio (rectangular or square) or an increased number of subjects 2 + subjects, a quote will be provided.

  • 2: Reference Photo

You will ideally need a high quality head shot photo so I can capture the most detail within the drawing. Natural daylight is the best lighting for the photo. When photographing pets, key features such as eyes and nose and fur should be clear.

Best to take multiple pictures to find the best one, I recommend holding your pets (or humans) favourite treat or toy behind the camera, so they focus on that, maybe move it up and down or to the sides to try different angles to find a position you’d prefer.

  • 3: Secure Your Booking

Once you've chosen your portrait size and reference photo, it is time to secure your booking. If you haven't done so already, send me an email and we can discuss the details and process of your portrait.

Your booking is not complete until a 50% deposit (non-refundable) is made. The remaining 50% will be made once the portrait is complete and you are 100% pleased with the outcome.

  • 4: Creating Your Portrait

If you would like to stay updated through the creation of your portrait then I can send you regular updates as I go - or it can be a surprise once I feel it's complete.

The time a portrait takes to complete differs depending on the size and number of subjects. If you have a deadline as to when you need the portrait, then please let me know so I can take this into account when choosing your waiting list slot.

Once you are 100% happy with the final drawing, the remaining 50% payment can be made.

  • 5: Delivery And Review

Once I have received your final payment, I will package your drawing up securely and post it to you.
